Celebrities are public personalities, and they are constantly under the limelight.
Being famous, they tend to face certain issues and controversies that are being thrown their way, and they are more vulnerable to a lot of people’s hate, judgements and criticisms.
Jasmine Curtis-Smith, for instance, has been receiving hate comments about her weight loss, and some people have called her “anorexic” and “malnourished.” Because of this, the actress admitted that she became anxious and got depressed.
“I just want to share my opinion as a mental health advocate. It affected me, it gave me anxiety, it made me so depressed that people calling me out like that. It is so hurtful that people don’t understand na kaming mga nasa industriya, tinatanggap naman namin lahat. Huwag n’yo lang kaming pangaralan, as if hindi naman kami pinaparangalan ng mga manager namin, ng family namin,” Jasmine told the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP).
She continued, “Sorry, sensitive topic for me… I’ve never been humiliated by my weight, shamed by my weight, because di kayo happy na payat ako. Hindi lang… it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, napakapangit ko palang tao dahil payat ako!’ or ‘Oh, my gosh, napakasama ko palang tao dahil di ninyo gusto ang hitsura ko!’ People think you just want to be praised or masabihan ka ng maganda, no, it’s not that. Kaunting respeto naman kasi sine-share ko naman ang buhay ko sa inyo, not because it’s my obligation, not because I owe it to you guys, but because I want to, but because happy ako, di ba?”
The actress was quite emotional while addressing the issue, and she couldn’t help but shed some tears.
Jasmine further explained, “Personal na siya and it’s about my weight.
